$197,400 OTF Grant from Ontario Government Supports Safety-Focused Renovations at Armagh, Peel Region’s Only transitional shelter for women and children escaping violence.

Mississauga, ON – On Saturday, local MPP Rudy Cuzzetto met with the team at Armagh to hear more about the $197,400 OTF Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to renovate their transitional shelter to address current structural and environmental issues, improving safety and health for women, children and staff. The project will extend the life of Peel Regions only transitional shelter for women and children escaping violence, ensuring survivors of intimate partner violence now and in the future have the safety and supports needed for independent living.

“For over 30 years, Armagh has provided the only transitional supportive housing program in Peel Region, helping women and children rebuild their lives after escaping abuse and violence," said Rudy Cuzzetto, MPP for Mississauga—Lakeshore. "Through a $197,400 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, our government is supporting critical facility upgrades to address structural and environmental concerns, and improve the safety, health, and overall well-being of residents and staff. This will ensure that Armagh can continue offering a secure, stable, and dignified space for women and children to heal and move forward with their lives.”

While Armagh has been Peel Regions ONLY transitional shelter for nearly 35 years, the actual house has been around much longer. The funds provided by the OTF Capital Grant were used to replace the shelters roof. By addressing structural issues with the transitional shelter, it not only improves current safety for women, children, and staff now, it also ensures that there will be safe and supportive transitional housing for survivors of intimate partner violence in the future.

“This grant has allowed critical renovations to be made, providing us with long-term sustainability as a safe and supportive place for women and children to come and rebuild their lives”, said Jannies Le, Armagh’s Executive Director.
